Independent ECX guide · verified 8 October 2026

Before you move your BTC, understand your ECX.

If you hold Bitcoin through the eCash (ECX) fork snapshot, you may have a corresponding ECX balance. The important part comes afterwards: BTC and ECX share pre-fork history, and replay protection is opt-in. Learn what that means and use the official tools to split the assets safely.

STOP BEFORE SENDING BTC. If your BTC has not been separated from the corresponding ECX, do not assume an ordinary BTC transaction is safe for both chains. Read the current official coin-splitting guidance first. A transaction that is valid on Bitcoin may also be replayable on ECX until the assets are properly separated.

What is happening?

eCash (ECX) is a planned Bitcoin hard fork. The official project currently says mainnet is planned around 31 October 2026 at approximately Bitcoin block 973,728.

01 · The snapshot

The ECX chain starts from Bitcoin's ledger at the fork snapshot. The official guide currently describes a 1:1 ECX balance for BTC held at the mainnet snapshot.

02 · Your BTC stays BTC

The fork does not convert your Bitcoin. BTC remains on the Bitcoin network while ECX exists on its own chain.

03 · Replay is the issue

Because transaction history and formats overlap, a BTC transaction can potentially be valid on both networks. Replay protection is opt-in, so splitting matters.

How to split safely

This site does not construct transactions, hold coins or connect to your wallet. It points you to the current official procedure.

1

Confirm your situation

Know whether your BTC is self-custodied or held by an exchange. If an exchange controls the keys, its ECX support policy determines your access.

2

Read the official procedure

Use the official ECX coin-splitting and replay-protection guidance. Check the current wallet release and network before using real funds.

3

Split before moving BTC

Follow the official wallet procedure to separate the ECX side from the BTC side. Do not improvise transaction construction unless you fully understand the official technical procedure.

Never enter your seed phrase on SplitYourECX.com. We do not need it, want it, or ask for it. Anyone asking you to send BTC, reveal a seed phrase or “connect to claim” ECX should be treated as suspicious.

Before you move BTC

✓Have I read the current official coin-splitting guide?
✓Do I know whether I control the Bitcoin keys?
✓Am I using verified, current software for the correct network?
✓Have I separated/protected the ECX side before making the BTC transaction?
✓Have I independently checked every destination address?

FAQ

Do I have to use SplitYourECX.com?

No. You do not need this website at all. It is simply an independent educational guide. The actual coin-splitting procedure should be taken from the official ECX resources.

Do I need to connect my wallet here?

No. There is no wallet connection, no account and no custody. We do not handle your BTC or ECX.

Can I move BTC before splitting?

Do not assume it is safe. The official ECX guidance says replay protection is opt-in. Read the current coin-splitting procedure before moving pre-fork BTC.

What if my BTC is on an exchange?

The exchange controls the relevant keys. Whether you receive ECX and how you access it depends on that provider's official policy. Check with the exchange rather than assuming support.

Do I need to “claim” ECX before the fork?

The official holder guide currently says there is no pre-claim or registration for the mainnet snapshot. Access after the fork is a separate wallet/custody issue.

Is ECX the same as XEC?

No. ECX is the asset described by ecash.com as the 2026 Bitcoin hard fork. XEC refers to the separate eCash project/network at e.cash.
